Learn to Embrace Tree Service: A Tree Blog

Welcome to my blog. My name is Sarah, and right now, I can see my favourite tree from my window. A few years ago, it was ailing, but I learned everything I could about tree health and nurtured her back to abundance. In this blog, I plan to write all about tree care, from the basics you can do on your own to knowing when to call a professional. My love of trees grew out of my love for gardening and landscaping, and I may write about those topics as well. I hope that you like my blog and that it inspires you. Thanks for reading!

Landscape Trees: Understanding the Common Causes of Failure

Diana Jones

Proper maintenance of landscape trees is essential for the general aesthetics and safety of your property. One of the crucial practices that you should uphold as part of your tree maintenance schedule is inspection. Regular evaluation of the condition of the trees will help you identify any damage sustained. Moreover, you will be able to predict potential causes of failure and resolve before significant degradation of the tree. Here are the common causes of tree failure that you should understand when inspecting your landscape features.

Natural Form Imperfections

The natural imperfections of your landscape trees can make them more vulnerable to damage, particularly during inclement weather. Therefore, you should check the growth of your trees and ensure that they are in good form. Unsuitable branch unions are common weak points when the tree is exposed to stress. An ideal union should have a protruding bark ridge between the branches. If this is absent, the branches will separate easily. In addition, you should watch out for co-dominant leaders. Basically, this means that a single tree has more than a single stem or branch as the centre point.

Decay

You should look for decay on your landscape trees during your inspection. In general, decay refers to the natural and gradual degradation of the plant tissues in the stems, branches and roots. If the tree has decayed tissues, it will lose its natural strength and the entire tree will fail. When assessing the trees, you should take note of the location of the decaying tissues. If the damage is localised in the some of the branches, you can resolve it by removing the affected limbs. However, complete removal might be necessary if the main stem or the root system is degraded.

Site Problems

Tree failure can occur due to problems related to your property. Therefore, you should make periodic assessments of the ground conditions. If the soil on your land is shallow, you will notice exposed roots. The root system will also grow abnormally if the landscape is too confined for natural extension. Other site issues such as oversaturation of the ground or soil compaction can compromise the normal growth of the plants. Consequently, the plant structures will be weak, leading to easy destruction of the tree during storms and other stressful conditions.

You can prevent the failure of your trees and promote healthy growth by performing preventative maintenance practices such as pruning. You can perform the upkeep tasks, but you will get the best results by engaging an experienced tree service expert.
